Cathays Road End Improvement

This project, which has now been completed, was prioritised under the Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme Programme.  The proposal was submitted by Cathays Ward Councillors to provide improvements to selected road end closures that could then accommodate community led environmental projects e.g. planters for flowers and plants to provide habitat for wildlife – in particular, pollinating insects. Additional benefits would be to improve pedestrian and cycle access and the reduction of fly tipping and other forms of anti-social behaviour.

The physical works on the road end closures at May Street, Minny Street and Flora Street was carried out during the course of 2019. New paving, an accessible route for bicycles and wooden planters featured at all three locations. To supplement the physical works, an artist was commissioned to decorate the on street Virgin Media and BT communications cabinets, on the theme of pollinating insects. The designs were created by children at two local primary schools – Gladstone and St. Monica’s.
