Cardiff Council will be conducting improvements to the public realm in the Lower Cathedral Road shopping area in Riverside, as part of the Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme (NRS) Programme, funded by UK Government Levelling Up Fund.  The aim is to make the area safer, more attractive, and more enjoyable for everyone.

Improvements include:

  • Resurface public realm and footpath area with decorative paving and Tarmac.
  • Removal of existing railings for cyclists safety. These will be replaced with bollards to prevent vehicles mounting the pavement.
  • Installation of a pedestrian crossing.
  • Replacement cycle stands and waste bin.

Centregreat have been appointed as principal contractors and will be carrying out the works on behalf of Cardiff Council, commencing 19th January 2026.  The project will take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete.

During this time, a certain amount of disruption is likely to occur, however, every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.
