Project overview

The front and rear outside areas of Loudoun and Nelson House were prioritised for improvement by the Council. Concerns were raised about how these areas looked and worked for residents living in both Loudoun and Nelson House.

Works completed

Improvements to the front were made, including:

  • New paving used to create a new direct path straight into the entrance of Loudoun and Nelson House.
  • New concrete art feature designed in partnership with the residents
  • New concrete benches, clearly visible by CCTV.
  • Providing additional cycle racks, clearly visible by CCTV.
  • Removal of existing shrubs and trees.
  • New grassed areas and new trees
  • New scooter storage unit.
  • New hand rails along main path into the building.

Improvements to the rear were made, including:

  • A new area for informal play for young children with soft surfacing and grassed areas.
  • New fencing around the edge of the grassed area to separate cars and pedestrians.
  • New path around the open space with seating.
  • New paving, planting areas, shelter and seating for residents of Nelson House.

The Art Wall element of the scheme was a huge success. Residents met with the appointed artist to share stories, discuss their association to the area and help define the final art pieces.
